Manchester United have a no-lose situation that could unlock their transfer window - Lejit Reporters
Erik ten Hag has signed his top transfer targets in goal and in midfield but there is plenty more work to do before the window slams shut.
Whilst much of the focus has been on incomings at Manchester United, the success of negotiating outgoings could dictate the rest of their transfer window.
Andre Onana is set to become Erik ten Hag's second summer signing. So far, so good, with the Dutchman's first-choice targets in goal and midfield arriving at Carrington before the end of July.
Of course, the biggest priority entering the summer was to address the problem at the top end of the pitch. United are desperate for a focal point, as further highlighted by Jadon Sancho starting both of their pre-season friendlies up front.
Manchester United want to sign Rasmus Hojlund but may need to raise funds in order to reach an agreeable figure with Atalanta. There is interest in squad players such as Fred, with Fulham taking a keen interest.
Invariably, it is always harder to sell the players you don't want. The interest tends to come in those you'd rather keep, which makes the transfer window a difficult balancing act.
However, United can only benefit when it comes to Donny van de Beek, the forgotten man at Old Trafford. It's fair to say his United career has been disappointing, which is an understatement.
After moving for £40million, he has barely created a dent in repaying that figure. His three seasons at United have seen him underused, sent out on loan and injured.
The Dutchman made his comeback from a long-term knee injury in pre-season and scored a brilliant winning goal against Lyon on Wednesday night. A flash of quality which has been all too infrequent for a player that had interest from Real Madrid before joining United.
He was obviously delighted to be back on the pitch and scoring goals. For United, they will hope that continues.
